LBD - Little Black Dress

One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress.
—  Karl Lagerfeld

Every woman has one, some like me, lets just say have quite a few!

Whether it's short or long, fitted or loose, wrap or shirt, every woman has at least one Little Black Dress!

It 1926 American Vogue coined the enduring phrase, Little Black Dress, in honour of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's famous collection of black dresses.  Simple clean lines allowing for comfortable fabrics that the fashion set had not seen before, the dresses had been compared to the classic T model Ford.  Coco Chanel famously said that she wanted to give women comfortable clothes that moved with the body... a novel concept at a time when women still wore corsets.

Fast forward 90 years and the Little Black Dress is as popular now as it ever was.

Black is modest and arrogant at the same time.  Black is lazy and easy - but mysterious.  But above all black says this: "I don't you; don't bother me"
- Yohji Yamamoto

Probably the most famous LBD - Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's

The lady herself, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel

Marilyn epitomised the essence of the LBD in the '50s

Catherine Deneuve in a '70s version

the dress, the leg, the attitude, Angelina Jolie

I have my own LBDs in my wardrobe, no Givenchy or Versace here but some gorgeous pieces none the less...

This gorgeous dress I purchased from one of my favourite shops Syrup in Hampton St.  I bought it in September and I have worn it 5 times already.  To the Brownlow all glammed up, to a luncheon, a party and dinner... I love it!

Another one is a Betsey Johnson that I purchased from LA a couple of years ago, it's a black knit dress with a slip under it and a ribbon waist.  I am not your Betsey Johnson kinda gal but I love this dress.

For the Brownlow a few years ago I purchased this amazing sequined number from another local favourite shop of mine, Closet Fever.  It is a timeless piece!

Last but not least is a Leona Edminston dress I purchased 4 years ago... its the go-to dress for everything... Similar to this less frill.

No doubt I will see another one soon and that too will become a favourite.

To Pixie or Not To Pixie?

I must have missed the memo?

Is pixie the new black or something?

So many ladies from Hollywood have had the chop lately that is seems that short is the way to go...

Here are a few before and after shots of some well know ladies who have done away with the flowing locks...

Coco Rochas
Soft balayage

Anything would look good on this woman!
I really don't think I have an opinion on Jen's hair as yet... I am struggling a litte at the moment because she is my hair guru so it will take time for me to get used to it (I know a bit dramatic of me... I am Greek,  we invented drama!)...

What do you think?  Will you be rushing to chop yours off????

I know I won't be as I start growing my hair immediately after I cut it!

Busy few weeks

Where do I start?

I guess from the obvious... WE SOLD OUR HOUSE!

Our house was a labour of love (and lots of $$$$).  You see we wanted to buy street and not house so off we went and 8 years ago we bought a very average house in a very very nice street!

Our renovation was too much to do in one stage, it had to be done over 3 years and we decided to live in the house whilst we were renovating and not do the smart thing and move out!  Insane I say and you agree, no doubt!  The potential was there... 1932 solid brick house with all the original architraves and beautiful timber floors.  Over the years though previous owners put their mark on it.  So the original leadlight windows taken out and "federation" windows be put in... a nineties kitchen... an eighties bathroom... the list goes on and on...

3 stages, 3 years and it was complete.  Some days I think the best thing for us to do would have been to demolish and building a new place.  It would have been cheaper and easier... I am old school and easy isn't necessarily my way!  I love old houses, the character, the history, the charm you can't replicate with new properties.

So after being here for 8 years in a few weeks we move... To where you say?  I don't know I reply!

It will have to have old bones and loads of character... hopefully not so much work this time round!

Rachel Zoe's Home

Instyle Magazine recently was allowed inside the glamour yet relaxed home of the uber stylish Rachel Zoe, her husband Rodger Berman and baby boy Skyler...

Rachel, Rodger and Skyler

Being a parent had forced Rachel to take a more casual approach to her home... She wants Skyler to be able to play and just be!

What a cutie!

Skyler is the only person that Rachel cooks for!  Hard to imagine Rachel cooking, I must say...

The elegant yet minimalist formal dining room...  although you can't see it here, Rachel commissioned a portrait of Skyler done entirely by thumbprints!

The main bedroom with its huge four poster bed is adorned with Hermes prints on the walls and Missoni cushions and throws.  Her favourite piece in this room is the vintage Knoll armchair!

Although white is Rachel's colour of choice, there is definitely a lot of warmth in this office with timber panelled walls and the Hermes blanket!

The piece de resistance!  Rachel's closet! (or at least a section of it!)

I see Hermes... and Louis Vuitton... and Chanel... and Gucci... and...

Skyler's nursery was originally designer Jeremiah Brent... Fiance to Nate Berkus!

Don't you just love his own little Hermes blankie...

Skyler's shoe collection could rival even the most seasoned fashionistas!

The outdoor enterntaining area... carries the indoor out!  A great place to socialise!

Thanks you Instyle for giving us a peek into this style icons beautiful LA home!
